Opening Day …

02 Apr

Opening day came and went yesterday and the fishing couldn’t have been better.  The catching, however, is another thing entirely.

I started at the Long Bridge in the late morning and hooked up with my cousin to fish the Sportsman hole (picture above) for the remainder of the day.  Unfortunately, the only thing I came out with was two hip boots filled with water and pictures of my cousin’s fish.  It’s not all about the catching, just being in the water was great, but a little something something would have been nice.

I did get a few nice pictures by an abandoned bridge foundation near the Long Bridge that I liked.  A couple of the better ones are done below.  I also did a few black and whites that are posted on Shutterfly.

Tenth Frame …

It all comes down to this ….

Over the last couple of years, our bowling team just wasn’t very consistent.  We had some injuries and personnel changes along the way.  Flash forward to the beginning of this year where we were literally in last place behind everyone except the “bye” team.

Since then we’ve been scratching and clawing our way back up the ranking until this moment.  We’ve already secured second place.  We have one week left in the season and it’s position night against the first place team.  We’re down only 5 points, so if we sweep all seven, we’ll finish in first place.  If we give up only one game and not total wood, we’ll be tied into a roll off.

Since I’ve never bowled on a team that has ever really had a chance at finishing in first, I’m optimistic.  Unfortunately the league had some scheduling issues so we’ll have to wait until Easter to find out the results.

Oh What a Night …

28 Feb

I’ve been an Orange basketball fan long enough to have followed Manley Field House being declared “closed” through the game on Saturday night.  Through that whole time, I can’t remember being so impressed with the support of the men’s basketball team this week;  the whole community running out to Holy Shirts, the former Orangemen pulling off a charity benefit for Haiti, the first sell out in the Dome — weeks in advance, ESPN College Day live from the Dome, the student body’s support the entire weekend, etc.

At this point, I was starting to get a little nervous that it might be too much hype and less we get “distracted”.  To add to the excitement, #1 Kansas and #2 Kentucky both loose.  With #3 Purdue loosing a key player and their pending performance on Sunday and #4 Syracuse’s win over #7 Villanova — It’s possible we may be playing for the #1 spot in the country come Monday evening.

Oh yeah, let’s not forget that this win could guarantee at least a share of the Big East regular season title and the extra bye round in the Big East Tournament.  All in front of 34,616 decked out with orange towels.  Top it all off with an impressive win and … Oh What A Night!

The Syracuse Post Standard has this great picture that allows you zoom in and out on the crowd.  Very nice.  Below is from their web site.
