This summer semester I have class on Wednesday nights so I had pretty much written off the whole “Wednesday on the Water” concert series at the Inner Harbor. However, the rock and roll gods showed mercy on me and we were let out of class early tonight. I dropped off Steven and headed right to the show.
According to the band, I wasn’t the only one who didn’t make it tonight. There were some flight delays coming out of Florida yesterday so half the band left this morning. With additional delays, they ended up in Rochester and drove to the gig. They didn’t even have all of their equipment — the bass player was using a borrowed bass guitar.
I was still entertained. The majority of the music they played came off of their Strikes album. This was alright with me, because this was one of my favorite albums. Live tunes tonight included “I Got a Line on You”, “Baby Blue”, and “Train Train” (the closer of the regular set).
Of course, you knew they would finish with their most popular tune, “Highway Song”. This was a treat for me because, although the band has been around for 41 years, this was the first time I’ve seen Blackfoot do this song live. It was tasty.
The two highlights for me were “Fly Away” from Marauder and “Left Turn on a Red Light”, also from Strikes. The lowlight … I did not like the use of the pre-recorded harp in a couple of songs, especially “Train, Train”. Outside of that, a beautiful night for a show and another band to cross off of my “to see” list.
