Eddie Money - 07-22-2010 (Peter Coates)

As many of you already know, over the past 20 years I’ve tried to see Eddie Money three times and all three times missed the show.  Considering I’ve only missed four shows over the last 25 years, It didn’t bode well for the Money Man when I decided to try again last night.  As it worked out, the fourth time was the charm.  Yes, I missed the first twenty minutes of the show, but I’m going to call it close enough to count.

As I made my way to the stage, Eddie was singing “Take Me Home Tonight”.  The place was pretty well packed.  I’d have to say that he drew about double the number of people that were at the Blackfoot concert the previous week.  Noticably absent were “Gimme Some Water” and “Two Tickets to Paradise”, which I can only assume he did prior to my arrival.  I’m also a huge fan of the missed song “Trinidad”.  The set included “Walk on Water”, “Baby, Hold On”, “Wanna Be a Rock ‘n Roll Star”, “Think I’m in Love” and “We Should be Sleeping”, amongst others.  “Shakin’” was one of the encore numbers.

I love it when the band communicates with the audience outside of the the obligatory “How are you guys doing tonight?” thing.  Eddie was pretty colorful trying to sell his merchandise, the story of $90 Rolling Stones t-shirt and his shout out to his probation officer who, according to Eddie, “made the trip with him to the see the show.”  I also liked the shout out he gave to Benny Mardones.  Honestly, I think Benny might have a step on the Money Man in regards to how they look right now.  But I’ve read about Eddie and Benny being friends for many years now.  As good as Eddie sounded in his prime, Benny has him beat in the voice category.

The show stealer was the three song set by Eddie’s daughter Jesse Money.  She was hot — both vocally and visually.  After listening to her sing, I definitely would like to check out some more music from her, although I don’t see any albums listed by her — I’ve have to do a little browsing later on.  Plus, as she pointed out, “her t-shirts are only half the price of her dad’s.”

Thanks to my friend Peter Coates for joining me at the show and taking the pictures posted on this post.  It was nice to meet his family.
