Beached …

23 May

It’s been a while since I’ve had an opportunity to get a blog entry in.  One might say I’ve been “back blogged”.  However, Saturday was a warm breezy day and since we were already visiting my father-in-law in Pulaski, we decided to drive up toward Southwick’s Beach to hike the “Lakeview Natural Beach” hike.

Ironically, this hike was more like walking through the desert than along the beach.  It was in the low 80′s, full sun and a fairly strong wind coming off of Lake Ontario.  The further we hiked toward Floodwood Pond, the fewer people we saw until, eventually, there was no one in either direction.  The wind was blowing feathers and other small objects along the sand and I was expecting to see a tumble weed or two.

Additional details about the hike can be found on Trails, Tails and Tents.  I had pulled a muscle in my shoulder the previous day while siding our shed and I think, in hind sight, carrying the backpack on a seven mile round trip may not have been the best idea.  Let’s just say that I was unable to even lift my arm by that evening.

There are a couple of nice observation decks between Southwick and Floodwood Pond.  Just a few feet brings you from Floodwood Pond to the sandy shore line of Lake Ontario.  If you feel like doing a little walking, there is a tremendous amount of sand to stretch out on and with tons of privacy to boot.
