Sadly, William J. Wheeler passed on Saturday, June 5th.  Bill’s family has had it’s share of challenges over the last few years and I’ve always respected the grace and faith in which they’ve handled them.  The Wheeler family is in our thoughts.  Below is the announcement posted by the Rome Sentinel:

” CAMDEN — William James Wheeler, 81, of Second St., passed away June 5, 2010 at Oneida Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side, after a brief illness. He was born on November 23, 1928 in Canastota, a son of William and Jennie Marsh Wheeler. Bill attended Canastota schools and after high school he joined the United States Army. Bill served his country from 1950-52 while stationed in Germany as an instructor during the Korean War. On October 8, 1983 Bill was united in marriage to Joan Clark in the Methodist Church of Camden. For 15 years Bill served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Madison County Sheriff’s Dept. and 15 years writing Policy and Procedures for the Sheriff’s Dept. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Most of all Bill enjoyed time with his family and trips to Cape Cod, MA and Southhampton, Long Island with his loving wife and best friend Joanie. He was a member of the Camden American Legion and V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Joan; two daughters and one son in-law Lynda Wheeler, Christine (Mark Schindlbeck) Wheeler all of Franklinville N.Y.; two sons and daughters in-law Steven (Judy) Wheeler, Melbourne, FL, Mark (Teresa) Wheeler, Dallas GA. William was also a loving father to Rebecca Clark, Camden, Naomi (Louis) Steppello ,Canastota, Matthew Clark, Dayton OH, and Andrew (Susan) Clark, Camden. Four sisters Jane Armstrong, Oneida, Mary Lee Brown, VA, Marcia Coomber, MD, and Collen Ingalls , Pulaski; three brothers Paul (Sue) Wheeler, PA, John (Jean) Wheeler, Lacona, and Jim (Anita) Wheeler, Pulaski: 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; special friends Charles Seebach, PA and Louis and Nancy Axt, MA.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home, 109 Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society or the United Church of Camden Presbyterian.” — Rome Sentinel
