Chinook and I continued our exploration of the Tully area again this morning. Today’s stop was Heiberg Memorial Forest. We didn’t really have a trail map and upon our arrival, I was a little uncertain what trail head to use. So, we got out the GPS and picked a cache.

Our first cache led us to the parking area with a beautiful view of the Tully area (above). The cache was easy to find from this position.

We then continued on to our second cache. This lead to another trail head further on down the road. The trail took us to “Pond 1″ (the header photo). We continued on in the hope that the main trail would bring us closer to the cache. After hiking all the way to the Truxton Tully Road entrance, we found the path ended there.
We back tracked to a yellow trail head that we passed before the pond and followed this.

This trail was a lot more difficult to hike. The trail went up and down in elevation and was underwater in spots. It eventually brought us close to the cache on top of the hill. We ventured off the marked trail in pursuit. We eventually found it, but were both winded by time we made our way through the growth and back to the trail.
Our entire “adventure” was approximately 4.6 miles. You can see the additional trail details on my “Trails, Tails and Tents” blog. With over 20 miles of trails, I’ll probably end up here again this summer.
